Allan was born in Green Bay, WI on August 19, 1938.  His family moved to Lake Worth, FL, where he graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1956.  He met and fell in love with June Everett, his future wife, in his Senior Year.
Allan joined the Army Reserve on March 5, 1956, and entered active duty in June 1956.  He applied for and recieved a competitive appointment to the United States Military Academy (West Point).  He entered West Point as part of the Class of 1961 in July 1957, graduating as a Second Lieutenant in June 1961.  Initally commissioned in Armor, he later branch transferred to Infantry in 1969.  He retired in November 1990 after twenty-nine plus years of commissioned service and thirty-four plus years of total service.
During his period of Active Duty, Allan served in numerous units in command and staff assignments throughout stateside and oversea assignments.  He alsi served as a Tactical Officer at West Point as well as a Company Officer at the United States Naval Academy.  In addition, he served seven years in Germany and two combat tours in Vietnam.  His last duty assignment was at Fort Sam Houstan, San Antonio, TX.  The highlight of his numerous assignements was as Company Commander of Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion (Mechanized), 22nd Infantry Regiment during 196701968 in Vietnam.
During his period of active duty, Allan recieved in addition to his BS in Engineering from USMA a MA from the University of Central Michigan.  His military education includes the command and General Staff College and the Army War College.
During his military career Allan was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze for Valor with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritiorious Service Medial with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Gold Star, Vietnamese Honor Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge and a Presidential Unit Citation.
Allan married June in June 1961 upon graduation from West Point.  They have tree children and six grandchildren.  They have resided in Crossville, TN since May 1, 1999.
Allan has been active in community veteran affairs.  He is currently: President of the Upper Cumberland Chapter, Military Officers Association of America.  He is also a member of The Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Legion of Valor; Society of West Point Graduates, and 22nd Infantry Regiment Society.  He has for the last three years led the fight for local veterans' groups to establish Junior Reserve Officer Training Program (JROTC) for the Cumberland County High School (CCHS). CCHS JROTC will begin the 2nd Semester of School Year 2004-2005.  Allan has volunteered to serve as the first CCHS JROTC Senior Army Officer Instructor.
